Let's start another flipping week

Just a short post this Monday morning, to try keeping up with my ridiculous 20-in-30 #flipblogs pace.
This will be my first 5-day week of the school year, after Labor Day and two Jewish holidays. Thursday is an early-release, but we all know that sometimes those actually feel like more work than a regular school day!
So far I really like my planning pace. I have kept about one week ahead of myself, and I email the plan to special-ed support staff so 1) they know what's coming, like videos they should pre-watch and 2) to prevent myself from tinkering too much with my own plans!
Most mornings as I drive to work (only about 20 minutes), instead of feverishly reworking the agenda and order of activities for today's classes ... I have actually been thinking ahead to the following week or unit already. It's a very different and much better feeling!
Just hope that I can keep up that pace through the whole year. For one thing, I won't have any more Jewish holiday weekdays to get work done! The transition from Unit 1 to Unit 2 in early-October will be quite telling. While I had much of August to think about this first unit, and I have borrowed activities from previous school years, the next unit (elections, political parties, media literacy) feels newer and less familiar. That is Future Self's problem, but the crunch time is not too far away!

    Who is this flipping guy?!

Andrew Swan is in Year 19 of teaching middle school (8th-grade US Civics/Government in a Boston suburb). Previously he has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English, US history, geography, and ancient history in Massachusetts and Maine.
This is Andrew's 6th year of flipping nearly all his direct instruction, so we have more class time for simulations, deep discussions, analyzing primary sources, etc. ... and also to promote mastery for students at all levels.
His 8th-grade daughter, 10th-grade son, and wonderful wife all indulge Andrew's blogging, tweeting, & other behaviors. These include co-moderating the #sschat Twitter sessions and Facebook page.

Andrew does not always refer to himself in the third-person.
