This will be my first 5-day week of the school year, after Labor Day and two Jewish holidays. Thursday is an early-release, but we all know that sometimes those actually feel like more work than a regular school day!
So far I really like my planning pace. I have kept about one week ahead of myself, and I email the plan to special-ed support staff so 1) they know what's coming, like videos they should pre-watch and 2) to prevent myself from tinkering too much with my own plans!
Most mornings as I drive to work (only about 20 minutes), instead of feverishly reworking the agenda and order of activities for today's classes ... I have actually been thinking ahead to the following week or unit already. It's a very different and much better feeling!
Just hope that I can keep up that pace through the whole year. For one thing, I won't have any more Jewish holiday weekdays to get work done! The transition from Unit 1 to Unit 2 in early-October will be quite telling. While I had much of August to think about this first unit, and I have borrowed activities from previous school years, the next unit (elections, political parties, media literacy) feels newer and less familiar. That is Future Self's problem, but the crunch time is not too far away!
