Yesterday was the fourth day of school but I was not there. I've never called out so early in the year, but there was a pretty good reason: the sewer pipe in the street got clogged so badly that the pressure blew out the connection in my basement. We discovered the problem after 8pm on Thursday. I made the photos really small so you don't have to see the horrible details. My whole day was spent coordinating with a plumber, the city water works department, a disaster restoration company, and an insurance adjuster. The house still smells bad, especially in the kitchen, but the situation is improving.
Meanwhile back at school .... my students were directed to continue the Tech Orientation that I started with them on Thursday. It is vital that students' passwords are operational and that they can navigate the Schoology website which hosts nearly all my videos and other assignments for the school year. The IT Specialist creates a set of modules for students to follow, and I have my own Schoology-specific tasks (like replacing their animated-GIF profile pictures, because I just can't handle looking at them all year long!). We made much less progress than I expected on Thursday, because of the tropical environment (100-degree heat index) and some technical laptop problems. So it kind of worked out that I was absent, because I had left the list of directions on a whiteboard for students to continue where they left off. They didn't really need me in the room!
OK bye now. I have some cleaning to do....
