The first day was ridiculously hot: the high temp on Tuesday September 8 was 93 degrees, and the next three days were also unusually warm. I took the thermostat picture at 3:00 on Wednesday. My shirt was drenched in sweat and I felt like I had fought a marathon and lost. I just melt in the heat.
Now that the second week is over, I do declare that this school year is starting well. I have not yet made any students cry (that happens occasionally), and this year's crew is following classroom routines more consistently than last year's students did.
I have 83 students. There are 23 in special education and four have a 504 plan to address a disability. They comprise 33% of my student population. Probably higher than the number in your school....
Below you can see my first video-watching assignment of the school year. We waited a few days to ensure that Schoology accounts were accessible. Below the embedded video you can see the basic understandings that I want students to gain. The quiz will happen at the start of class. Hope it goes well!
